Until 1901 the medal's obverse contained an image of a trophy of arms with the Royal Arms in an oval shield in the centre while the reverse side contained the inscription "For Long Service and Good Conduct"

Following the 1993 review the MM was discontinued and the MC became available to all ranks of all services for exemplary gallantry on land in presence of the enemy

Bust of Queen Victoria Category_ Miniature Long & Meritorious Service Who was eligible for theBust of Queen Victoria made in British Gypsum Plaster. As with all Famous Faces there are objects around the base. For this bust we have included Osborne House, a Victoria Cross, a Christmas tree, Crystal Palace,a globe, a cameo of Prince Albert, The Royal Albert Hall and an Indian Elephant. The etch around the base reads "The important thing is not what they think of me but what I think of them"
